Panagal Fort is one of the Famous Hill Forts district of Mahaboobnagar in Andhra Pradesh. It was built by Kalyani Chalukya Kings during 11th and 12th Centuries A.D..It is located about 30 Kms away from Wanaparthy towards Kollapur. The fort is spread in hundreds of acres with Seven Gateways / Entrances. The Main entrance is called as Mundlagavini and is a Special attraction of this fort. It was built with huge granite rocks. We can find small ponds, bushes, Uyyala Mandapam, etc., with beautiful architecture in side of the fort. Many deadly wars took place among the dynasties like Bahamani, Vijayanagara, Padmanayaka and Qutub Shahis etc at this fort. The Very famous stories like Balanagamma, Mayalapakir of stage and cinema are having connection with this place.
Sarala Sagar Dam is located about 6 Kms away from Kothakota Mandal Head quarters on National Highway No. 7 from Hyderabad to Kurnool. Sarala Sagar Dam is the proof for the development of Science and Technology in Mahaboobnagar District. The Dam has been implemented by a rare and wonderful automatic Siphons System. This is only one of its kinds in Asian Continent and Second in the World. Wanaparthy Ruler Raja Rameshwara Rao had built this Dam on the name of his mother. The Technology for this project was brought from California In USA . In this Dam 17 hood Siphons, 4 priming siphons were used. Whenever the Water level of the tank exceeds its capacity the siphons System automatically opens.
This is the speciality of these siphons. The military Governor of Hyderabad Major General Sri J.N. Chowdary has laid the foundation on 15th September, 1949. This Dam was started in the year 1959. Approximately 4000 Acres of Agricultural land has been brought under irrigation through this project.
