Attirala Historical temple Kadapa Andhra Pradesh

Attirala is a religious place in kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh located at a distance of 10kms south of Rajampet and 55kms to the south of kadapa. Attirala is situated on the eastern bank of river Cheyyuru which has a great historical significance. The holiness of river Cheyyuru was widely described in the great epics of Mahabharata.River Cheyyeru atoned Parasurama from the sin of matricide and gave hands to Likhita, the brother of Sankha a great sage. People believe that Parasurama temple was once a Buddhist vidya kendra, occupied by Saivas first and later by Vaishnavas. 

Vaishnavas made this place as Parasurama Kshetra.To the south of this temple there is a 72 pillared hall and on the eastern side thre are two famous temples on the hill slope dedicated to Gadhadara and Thretheswara. Gadhadara stands on one leg here. The presence of Gadhadara and holy river Cheyyeru, Attirala is considered as sacred as Gaya Kshetram.Parasurama Kshetra, is worth seeing for its sculptural beauty and grand appearance.There is a Jyothistambha, higher up the temple of Thretheswara, on the top of a hill. Jyothi,  lighted on festivals, is visible to distance of 30 Kms around.

By Air:Kadapa airport is the nearest airport at a distance of 120kms and Hyderabad airport is about 466kms distance to Athirala.
By Rail:Rajampet railway station is the nearest one which is at a distance of 6kms, and Kadapa railway station is about 57kms to Athirala.
By Road:Kadapa > Vontimitta > Nadimpalli > Mantapampalli > Nandalur > Gundulur > Rajampet > Athirala Bus Route:Rajampet bus station is the nearest bus station to Athirala. It is well connected by buses to all the neighboring towns.

Whenever the Water level of the tank exceeds its capacity the siphons System automatically opens. 

This is the speciality of these siphons. The military Governor of Hyderabad Major General Sri J.N. Chowdary has laid the foundation on 15th September, 1949. This Dam was started in the year 1959. Approximately 4000 Acres of Agricultural land has been brought under irrigation through this project.
